| Bears/Colts Game Monday August 20, 8:00pm, at Gael Pub, 83rd st and 3rd ave (see below for details) |
Hey there New York City Bears Fans!
It's that time again - Bears Season!
Last year, the Bears went 13-3, a regular season record that brought both team and fans to a snowy, fairy tale-like NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints. I don't know if you remember what you were doing when Drew Brees threw that safety, but I sure do - I was jumping up and down on a barstool at The Gael, surrounded by more than 200 screaming Bears fans.
This year's Bears have already shown both at camp and in the first preseason game what an array of offensive weapons they've got this season, and as always they've brought a DOMINATING defense. It's going to be one hell of a ride, so why not share the trip with your fellow fans at the biggest Chicago Bears bar in the city: The Gael Pub!
This year, The Gael's got quite a few surprises in store:
- Goose Island Honkers Ale - Straight from the Goose Island Brewery in Chicago, IL, this English-style Ale is a staple for Bears games.
- Chicago-style Hot Dogs - You know what these are: Vienna all-beef hot dogs, dragged through the garden (for the uninitiated: tomato slices, peppers, relish, celery salt, pickle spear) served on a steamed poppyseed bun.
- Polish Sausage - Ditka... Polish Sausage... Ditka... Bears... Ditka... The venerable Polish Sausage, like Mike Ditka, George Halas, or the SNL Superfans, is a Bears institution. And the Gael will have them for the first game of the official season. Sorry, they're not going to be here in time for the Bears/Colts game.
- Old Style - We don't have it yet, but we're working on it. They don't sell it anywhere in New York or New Jersey, which makes things difficult. As soon as we're able to procure some, I'll send out a special announcement to this list.
- Great specials on draughts, bottles, and food, every gameday.
- Give-aways - Every game, The Gael will raffle off a $50 bar tab, and occasionally some Bears gear as well.
Remember, the festivities kick off for a SPECIAL SUPERBOWL REMATCH this Monday. The Indianapolis Colts host the Bears in what will hopefully be a very painful experience for Peyton Manning.
Kickoff is at 8:00 on Monday August 20th, with highlight footage from the Bears' 2006 season starting at 6:30.
Hope to see you there - I'll be the guy in the Tommie Harris jersey with the huge Flavor Flav-style Bears clock around his neck.
Also, you can forward this email to a friend if you know someone who's not on the list.
Bear Down,
Phil
P.S. - Don't forget to practice singing "Bear Down" - we play the song after every touchdown! Here are the lyrics, in case you need a quick refresher:
Bear Down, Chicago Bears.
Make every play clear the way to victory!
Bear Down, Chicago Bears.
Put up a fight with a might so fearlessly!
We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation,
With your T formation.
Bear Down, Chicago Bears.
And let them know why you're wearing the crown.
You're the pride and joy of Illinois,
Chicago Bears, Bear Down!
